Creating your beautiful home

So you’ve put together a few Pinterest boards and idea books on houzz, the ideas are flowing, the stars are in your eyes and you want to make things amazing! Where do you start?

This is the perfect time to call a designer. I love it when people come to me with exciting ideas and want input on creating the perfect space. The best way to achieve this is with a house plan. This plan lays out all the ideas and projects you want to do.

I’ve been in my house for 20 years. I did a bath remodel after my first two years in the house, and it’s time to do it again. I did a soft kitchen remodel about 7 years ago and the living room is looking awesome. I recently found a great mid-century modern entertainment piece at a consignment shop that really gave fresh life to the space. Creating a projects list for my own home has really helped me stay on target.

Creating this plan can be fun and also overwhelming. The best way to begin is with pictures on houzz, or in magazines or build an online photo album filled with ideas. Once you have all the pieces, your designer can help you put the puzzle together. You may want to target a specific room and some simple tasks to help you get started.

  • Clean out your linen closet

  • Get rid of the old tattered towels and sheets and replace with a new fresh look.

Remember how great it feels to go to a nice hotel or a resort and use those super big and soft towels? Treat yourself to the best you can afford. You will thank yourself every time you use one.

What would help you live exceptionally? What says luxury to you? If you create a resort feel in your home, you come home to a vacation every day. Not everything has to be a big thing. Small things count too, like changing the faucet in the kitchen, or changing your shower head. Order ready-made panels for your living room or bedroom and make the room feel fresh again.

Try adding zippy new glassware or dishes for a fresh inspired look in the kitchen, but don’t stop there. Pair it with a deep cleaning in the kitchen and reseal your stone countertops. Stone countertops should be sealed every year. And remember not to use anything with alcohol, vinegar, or bleach. This will strip off the sealer and staining can then occur. Granite sealer can be found at your home improvement store and is applied with a sponge and dries in minutes.

Think about switching out a rug or simply move them from room to room. I know this can be really hard to move all the furniture, but it will also help you achieve a deep clean throughout your house.

These are some of the little things that can make a real difference and move you on your way to a beautiful home. You don’t have to take the plunge right away, even small steps can inspire you.
