Incorporating a trend and staying true to yourself

Moving into a new home or refreshing the one you have, often feels like a daunting task, but it can be pure pleasure.  Take the time to create a plan and direction. Looking at the current designs and decorating trends that you see on Pinterest, Instagram, and HOUZZ is a great start, but don’t forget to add yourself to your home.  The current trend of grays and neutrals, with soft colors added for the POP, is nice, but if you’re a color person, be sure to express that in your home.

I recently attended the High Point Furniture Market and found “color” is on the rise! Gray is pretty much extinct and navy with pops of pink, emerald green, and orange is taking hold. A bohemian look is becoming very popular with lots of macramé, colored glass lanterns, and soft relaxed furniture.

Furniture included lots of details from leg styles, to fabric mixing, to back details on chairs.  I love this direction and find it interesting and usable because of how well it works with an open floor plan where you often float your furniture in the center of your floor. If you’re going to see the back of your sofa, you might as well make it interesting!

We all know art, rugs and accessories are just the thing to pull your look together and where you can truly express yourself.  Whether you like traditional or contemporary styles, this is how you add your signature to the space. Abstract art is very popular to pair with a traditional look. It keeps things a little off balance to make the room interesting. Rugs and accessories are the same flavor. Don’t be afraid to mix up your styles to really make your home someplace unique and reflective of you- the results are endless.
